It has been nearly a month since Georgia Tech lost arguably their best player, Robert Carter Jr., to what seemed to be a season-ending injury to his left knee, but there seems to be a glimmer of hope for him to return to the court this season. Carter was never officially ruled out for the season, but all signs pointed to a very difficult and unlikely return, but according to the AJC’s Ken Sugiura, it’s looking possible.

Head coach Brian Gregory was quoted as saying this about a potential return for his double-double machine:

"“That kid wants to get out there right now. All stuff like that, we’ll make sure it’s what’s best for the kid.”"

There will be some clarity in the situation quite soon, and that’s a great thing for both the club and the player. The sophomore forward who is averaging more than 10 points and 9 rebounds per game this season will be evaluated on Wednesday, and if he hasn’t made the appropriate strides, the next course of action will be to shut him down (officially) for the remainder of the year.

In his absence, the Jackets are just 2-5 (covering all of ACC play), and the depth concerns that many expressed after the injury took place have come to light without him. Positively, the play of center Daniel Miller has picked up over the last 7 games, but aside from that, it has been difficult to replicate the considerable production left by Carter’s injury. More will be known in the coming days, but until then, it’s the waiting game for Brian Gregory and company.
