With the Georgia State Panthers on a school-record 11-game winning streak, there was a great deal of anticipation for when the Panthers were set to take on South Alabama on Thursday night, but the game has been officially postponed. Here is an excerpt from the official Georgia State release on the subject:
"“Conditions do not look like they will improve enough to make a Thursday game possible when taking into consideration player and fan safety, therefore prompting the move to Monday after consultation between both athletic department administrations. The South Alabama women’s team made it to Atlanta overnight and the game against Georgia State is still planned to be played on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET at the Sports Arena. It was postponed from its originally scheduled Wednesday night tip.”"
The men’s game has been rescheduled for Monday, February 3rd, and I believe that is certainly the best decision given the resources at each team’s disposal. With an eye toward basketball, GSU will now look to break the school-record for consecutive wins on Saturday night, when they host the Texas-Arlington Mavericks (9-10 overall, 4-3 in Sun Belt) at 8:30 pm ET.
Stay tuned for more updates on the weather situation as it affects all of the local teams.
