After an unfortunate 13-point loss at the hands of the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets travel to Winston-Salem on Saturday for a battle with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Wake currently sits at 14-7 overall and 4-4 in ACC play, and while that is significantly better than the resume that Tech has put together, it is still a winnable spot for Brian Gregory’s club.
Wake’s attack is led by its defense, which is currently allowing just 98.2 points per 100 possessions on the season. Even in their most recent defeat, the Deacons held #2 Syracuse to just 67 points and made the game ugly despite a severe talent disadvantage. In all honesty, I’m not sure Tech doesn’t have the better team from a talent standpoint, but with the venue advantage, Wake is certainly in the driver’s seat.
Vegas has the Jackets as 4.5-point underdogs in the game (with KenPom projecting an 8-point win for Wake), further illustrating where public perception is at this stage. It may take a herculean effort from someone on the Tech roster (paging Marcus Georges-Hunt…) in order to grab a road win, and with time slipping away on this season, the urgency level is rising.
Stay tuned for more information as it arrives, and we will bring you a recap after the final buzzer sounds.
