Free agency opens in the National Football League on Tuesday afternoon, and with how the 2013 season went for the Atlanta Falcons, there is a magnifying glass on the proceedings. With that said, there is a consistent name that has been tied to Atlanta more than any other, and that name is Jon Asamoah.
Both Matt Miller and Adam Caplan indicate direct ties between the Falcons and 25-year-old offensive guard Jon Asamoah, and one additional source backs that up with a gauge of Atlanta’s interest. Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post had this to say:
"The Atlanta Falcons have an extremely high degree of interest in Kansas City Chiefs free agent offensive guard Jon Asamoah, according to league sources. Signing Asamoah could be an expensive proposition, though."
Well, then.
When one or two parties are reporting “interest” and using “sources”, it brings a certain level of skepticism, especially during free agent season. Still, Asamoah’s name has been circulating everywhere in the past 24+ hours, and the Falcons have a direct need in the area in which he plays.
Stay tuned for updates as they arise throughout the day.
