Georgia Tech Baseball: In Baseball America’s Top 25

The Georgia Tech baseball team hit Baseball America’s Top 25 list for the first time this season after winning a road series against No. 24 North Carolina this past weekend.
The Yellow Jackets are currently sitting in the No. 23 spot after sweeping a Saturday double-header against the Tar Heels and knocking the UNC team down seven spots from last week.
Despite not being lauded as a talent-rich squad, this Georgia Tech team has done remarkably well against the “top” teams in the ACC so far with series victories against Miami and now UNC.
During the series in Chapel Hill, the Yellow Jackets played with the Tar Heels back and forth, until the bats finally broke out in game three. What has been the most impressive for this team actually seems to be the defense. The Jackets turned six double plays in their three games over the weekend, including four during the first game on Saturday. Shortstop Connor Justus was particularly good on defense, and made almost every play that came to him with ease.
All of the sudden this Georgia Tech team is more than a bunch of good bats–they are looking like a good all-around team. If they can get more out of their pitchers (like Matt Grimes’ 7 IP, 8 H, 1 R outing of the final UNC game) then a run for the Atlantic Division isn’t at all out of the question.
Georgia Tech gets back to the field tonight at home against Mercer at 6:00 p.m.
