Opening day is here for the Atlanta Braves, and it was worth the wait! The Atlanta Braves have touched down in Wisconsin as they get set to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in this season’s opener, and while there have been considerable injuries to the rotation, the lineup is virtually in tact.
Julio Teheran is set to get his first Opening Day starter of his career, and the hard-throwing right-hander certainly earned it with his stellar 2013 season. Against Milwaukee, there are some real challenges for Teheran, especially when dealing with guys like Ryan Braun (fresh off his PED suspension), Carlos Gomez and notorious Braves basher Aramis Ramirez. Still, Teheran is capable of shutting down virtually any lineup, and if this Spring was any indication, he is ready to roll.
The Brewers will send right-hander Yovani Gallardo to the mound, and while it will be his 5th Opening Day start for the team, he was less than spectacular in 2013, posting a 4.18 ERA over 180.2 innings. Atlanta’s lineup is heavily right-handed this season, but despite that, Gallardo looks to be a solid match-up, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Braves smack him around a bit on Monday.
