UPDATE: The latest mock drafts and indications are leaning toward the Falcons going with a pass-rusher in Round Two. Here’s an example we posted from earlier in the day on Friday.

The 2014 NFL Draft kicked off for the Atlanta Falcons last night with the selection of offensive tackle Jake Matthews at No. 6 overall in the first round yesterday. While the second and third rounds are much less popular among casual fans, the Falcons still have work to do, and several holes that need to be filled.
Their largest of these (at least in this site’s regard) was filled with the Jake Matthews pick, and now the sights of Thomas Dimitroff should be focused on a pass rusher. Defensive end is the ideal position to go for during the second round, but if the Falcons think they have an outside linebacker who is a better talent, it shouldn’t a be a huge surprise either.
While a getting a pass rusher is the necessity for the Falcons at this point, there’s still a need for a safety and a tight end as the draft develops.
