Atlanta Hawks poke fun at the luck of the Cleveland Cavaliers

Much like the rest of the basketball world, the Atlanta Hawks organization is apparently shocked that the Cleveland Cavaliers won the number one overall pick for the third time in four years. This type of luck does not happen often, no matter what type of lottery, and while the Cavs haven’t taken full advantage by drafting optimally, they’ll have another opportunity next month.

In order to have fun with the situation (and they often do), the Hawks official Twitter account “purchased a Mega Lotto Jackpot” and posted on Twitter an image of the ticket.

The Hawks have the 15th and 43rd picks in the 2014 NBA Draft, which will be on June 26th. With those picks, Atlanta will look to build onto a somewhat mediocre season (editor’s note: sorry, Al) and a very exciting first round exit in the NBA Playoffs. The Hawks finished the season with 38-44, but Al Horford (the team’s best player) was out for majority of the season with a season ending torn pectoral muscle injury. He is reportedly scheduled to return in time for training camp, and that will be a big lift.

In addition to their draft picks, Atlanta has two unrestricted free agents this summer in Elton Brand and Cartier Martin, to go along with restricted free agents in Mike Scott and Shelvin Mack. There has been rumblings around the NBA that the Hawks are interested in bidding for Detroit Pistons restricted free agent, Greg Monroe, but aside from that, all is quiet to this point.

Not every organization can even dream of holding the luck that has hit the Cleveland Cavaliers in recent years, but with Danny Ferry and Mike Budenholzer at the helm, it is possible that Atlanta won’t need to break the bank in the lottery.
