After an unfortunate defeat on Wednesday night, the Atlanta Braves are back in action on Thursday, as they wrap up a long, 4-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. In this one, the Braves will send Aaron Harang to the hill, and he’ll be matched by Milwaukee’s starter, Matt Garza.
Both pitchers in this one have been remarkably consistent in recent days, but in the case of Garza, consistent doesn’t mean dominant. The 30-year-old right-hander has allowed exactly three runs in three consecutive starts, but with him averaging only six innings per outing, that amounts to a subpar 4.50 ERA. Hilariously, that 4.50 mark is also Garza’s career mark against the Braves in four outings, and he’s certainly proved to be hittable.
On the Atlanta side, Aaron Harang has also posted virtually the exact same line in three straight games, with six innings and two earned in each and every start. The 36-year-old has been a revelation for the Braves in his nine starts (2.98 ERA, 1.16 WHIP), but the most impressive statistic remains the fact that he is striking out more than a batter per inning. Harang may not be this good, but his peripherals indicate that he has simply been a different pitcher since joining the Braves, and Roger McDowell is doing cartwheels.
