Colorado Rockies at Atlanta Braves preview: Series finale
By Brad Rowland
After an unfortunate, 3-1 loss on Saturday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves will aim for another series victory on Sunday, as they send Julio Teheran to the hill against Franklin Morales and the Colorado Rockies.
Mike Minor was solid, yet unspectacular in Saturday’s game, and the Braves have the opportunity to get a more dominant outing from Teheran. Teheran’s “upside” was on full display during a complete game shutout earlier in the week, and against what could be a weakened Rockies lineup, the sky is limit for the young right-hander. Still, there are various land mines in Colorado’s lineup, and if guys like Carlos Gonzalez return alongside Troy Tulowitzki, nothing will come easy.
On the Colorado end, Franklin Morales doesn’t exactly present an arsenal that should frighten Braves fans. The left-hander has struggled to a 5.30 ERA (4.90 FIP) on the season, and he is traditionally a guy who has some control issues (career walk rate of 4.39 per 9 innings) and the sometimes patient offense could benefit from a solid approach. In addition, the fact that Morales comes from the left side is a built-in advantage against the right-hand dominant lineup, and that could spell out a recipe for a big day offensively.
