Boston Red Sox at Atlanta Braves preview: Memorial Day revenge
By Brad Rowland
Memorial Day did not go quite as planned for the Atlanta Braves, as they collapsed in an 8-6 defeat at the hands of the Boston Red Sox. Fortunately, the Braves will have three additional cracks at toppling the defending champs, and the first of those chances arrives on Tuesday night at Turner Field.
After a day where Clay Buchholz was wholly ineffective, the Red Sox will send left-hander Jon Lester to the mound in game two. Lester has had a strong bounce-back season with a 3.36 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but he was roughed up for seven earned runs in his last outing, and the Braves will look to build on that in this one. Left-handers have long been a weakness for Atlanta, but this version of the offense has been much better from that side, and that provides a ray of sunshine.
Aaron Harang takes the mound for the Braves on Tuesday night, and while the big right-hander has regressed to the mean a bit, he has been quite solid. The 36-year-old has a 3.22 ERA in ten starts, and hopefully, that number will stay “true” after a face-off against the Red Sox. One match-up to watch will be Harang squaring off against David Ortiz, and while it isn’t a certainty to happen in a National League ballpark, “Big Papi” is terrifying for any right-hander.
