With the hysteria of his Major League debut in the rear-view mirror (in the form of a 2-hit night in a shutout loss), Tommy La Stella becomes just another member of the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night, as the team aims to wrap up their four-game set against the Boston Red Sox with a victory. In the finale, the Braves will send left-hander Mike Minor to the hill against right-hander Jake Peavy for Boston.
The 26-year-old Minor has been solid but unspectacular since coming back from the disabled list, as he has amassed a 3.90 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over five starts and 30 innings of work. As usual for Minor, allowing home runs (six in those 30 frames) has been his biggest downfall, and in Fenway Park and against the lineup, it could certainly be an issue once again.
For the Red Sox, Jake Peavy has been woeful after a hot start. The now 32-year-old Peavy has allowed five runs or more in three straight outings (after doing it just once in his first seven starts), and with that, his ERA has risen to an unsightly 4.65 (with a 1.50 WHIP) on the season. That said, he has quality stuff from the right side, and even with Tommy La Stella here to “save” the Braves with a left-handed bat (sarcasm intended), Peavy could be trouble if he has his “A”-game against Atlanta.
