Atlanta Dream notch comeback win over Los Angeles Sparks
The Atlanta Dream fought off arguably the most recognizable name in all of women’s sports, the Los Angeles Sparks, in front of a national television audience and on their home floor, winning their fourth game of the season by a 93-85 final.
The Dream over came a hard-pressing Sparks defense, as well as a big deficit early (the first quarter ended with a 23-18 LA lead) to get the victory, and the offense exploded in the middle two quarters of ball, scoring 28 in the second and 29 in the third. It was Erika deSouza who lead the Dream in scoring, notching a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds, and she was joined by Sancho Lyttle, who also recorded a double-double by snagging 12 boards to accompany 16 points. Angel McCoughtry and Jasmine Thomas also finished the night in double figured scoring.
For Los Angeles, they were lead on the score sheet by Jantel Lavender, who put up 21 points all her own. Not far behind was Nneka Ogwumike, who had herself a double-double as well, putting up 19 points and 12 rebounds. Candace Parker was the lone other double digit scorer for the Sparks, as she put up 15 points, five rebounds and dished out seven assists.
The Dream once again shot very well from the floor, going 53% as well as shooting an astounding 92% from the free throw line. Three-point range proved to be troublesome again (23%), but luckily, the Sparks put up a worse number from downtown (17%). The Dream were actually out rebounded (34-32), shared the rock less (the Sparks finished with 27 assists to just 20 from Atlanta) and the Dream turned the ball over more (18-16).
The Dream will remain at home and play Chicago on Saturday.
