Report: Charles Mitchell to visit Georgia Bulldogs

It has been a week since word broke that Maryland Terrapins transfer Charles Mitchell had reported interest in both the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but now, that smoke is beginning to turn into fire. Jeff Goodman of ESPN reports that Mitchell is set to visit Athens on Wednesday.

Mark Fox and the Bulldogs had long known that John Cannon was exiting the program, but that transfer came to fruition on Tuesday, and that opens up a gap that could be filled by Mitchell. The 6-foot-7 power forward was highly productive while at Maryland, averaging more than 6 points and 6 rebounds per game in a supporting role, and because he could be available immediately (pending NCAA review), Mitchell could be quite the acquisition.

It is important to note that Georgia will have plenty of competition from their cross-state rival in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but Mitchell seems focused on coming close to his home in Atlanta. The recruiting battle is heating up, but if the Bulldogs are able to make first contact with a visit to campus, that could be significant in bringing him to Athens.
