Charles Mitchell set to transfer from Maryland to Georgia Tech
By Brad Rowland
Approximately two weeks ago, it was widely reported that former Maryland power forward Charles Mitchell was considering a transfer to either Georgia or Georgia Tech, and on Thursday, the news was incredibly positive for Brian Gregory and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
It is important to note that this move has not been announced by either Mitchell or the university at the time of this post, but this is a huge coup for the program. With the power forward spot vacated by Robert Carter and his suddenly ironic transfer to Maryland, Georgia Tech was facing a gaping hole in the frontcourt, but the addition of Mitchell could fortify the unit for the 2014-2015 season if Mitchell is granted immediate eligibility as expected.
As a sophomore with the Maryland Terrapins, the 6-foot-7 Mitchell averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, and while he is likely a downgrade from Carter, he would immediately be the top power forward on the Georgia Tech roster. Stay tuned for updates as they arise, but if this breaking news comes to fruition, Charles Mitchell is certainly an important acquisition for the Yellow Jackets, and especially for Brian Gregory.
