Atlanta Falcons sign wide receiver Courtney Roby

The Atlanta Falcons announced earlier today on twitter that the team has signed wide receiver Courtney Roby:

Roby will join what “some people” call the best duo receiving duo in the NFL in Julio Jones and Roddy White. Roby missed last season after the New Orleans Saints dropped him in August and he didn’t play for anyone else during the 2013 campaign.

This is definitely a depth move for the Falcons, and it will be extremely surprising if Roby lines up on the field with White or Jones. He also served as a gunners and kick returner for the Saints.

Darin Gantt, of Pro Football Talk, had this to say about the move:

"He’s never been more productive than he was when he was a rookie with the Titans in 2005, where he had 21 of his 25 career catches.Translated, if he ends up doing anything for the Falcons this year, there has been a catastrophe.Like last year."

He’s got a point. It can’t be anything but a disaster if Roby turns into a regular as a receiver. However, there’s always the chance that he can serve as a valuable player off the bench and/or in special teams.
