New York Mets at Atlanta Braves: Seven straight wins and a sweep?

facebooktwitterreddit

The Atlanta Braves come into their series finale with the New York Mets on a six-game winning streak, and with another win tonight they will sweep their second consecutive series and increase their league-leading streak to seven.

The team hasn’t played astonishing baseball by any means during the past two games with the Mets, but they are capitalizing when they can and holding onto leads once they get them. Last night, the bullpen had plenty of work to do, and backed up Mike Minor admirably.

Tonight, the pen will look for more of a break as Julio Teheran takes on Jacob DeGrom.

DeGrom: Degrom is coming off of a tough no-decision against Pittsburgh, where he threw 6.2 innings and held the Pirates to just two runs and five hits. On the season, he’s put up a 3.62 ERA, 4.01 FIP and 4.04 xFIP while striking out 7.41 batters per nine innings and walking 3.95. Similar to when Wheeler was on the mound, the Braves will need to be patient with DeGrom and take the free passes that he’s consistently allowed.

Teheran: Teheran’s last start was a seven-inning masterpiece against the Philadelphia Phillies, where he allowed just one earned run and struck out nine batters without walking a batter. Teheran has been the best and most consistent arm in Atlanta’s starting rotation this year and is putting up great numbers. He’s got a 2.34 ERA, 3.22 FIP and 3.56 xFIP and a K/BB ratio of 4.48–the best mark of his young career. He’s striking out 7.79 per nine and walking just 1.74.
