The Atlanta Braves dropped the series opener against the Miami Marlins on Monday evening (in extra innings, no less), but they’ll have an opportunity to even the four-game set just 24 hours later. In the second game,Fredi Gonzalezand company will sendMike Minorto the hill, and the left-hander will be looking to improve on his woeful numbers this season.
The 26-year-old Minor has struggled to a 4.86 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP this season, and while the advanced metrics indicate that the left-hander has been noticeably unlucky, the heat is on at this point. Miami’s offense is nothing to write home about, but Minor allowed 6 earned runs in Chicago in his last start, and the long All-Star hiatus could do wonders for his confidence, while simultaneously allowing him a mental reset.
In opposition, the Marlins will send 23-year-old right-handerJacob Turnerto the mound. Turner has been a disaster this season, posting a 6.22 ERA and 1.62 WHIP this season, and while he has the pedigree of a top prospect, the results haven’t followed. Atlanta’s bats went silent on Monday, but this is a nice spot to jumpstart the offense.
