After a highly publicized assault charge that landed him in jail for more than 24 hours, Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor has been dismissed from the football program in Athens.

The 340-pound Taylor was set to have a potentially substantial role on the defense for Jeremy Pruitt this season, but due to the nature of the charges (aggressive assault) and the felony tag, he was quickly let go following his release from jail. As noted by Seth Emerson, Taylor’s dismissal followed the pattern used on Isaiah Crowell following his felony charge, and Mark Richt wasted no time in making a quick decision without the benefit of a quote in the initial release.
Jonathan Taylor joins Josh Harvey-Clemons and Tray Matthews in being dismissed from the program this off-season, and it has not exactly been a banner year in Athens from the standpoint of being “model” citizens. Still, the “Mark Richt has lost control” meme takes a hit by the swift dismissal in this case, and it appears as if the Georgia program will be moving on without a talented player due to this highly unfortunate circumstance.
