Paul Millsap included in first round of USA Basketball cuts

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted earlier this evening that the USA Basketball team has made their first round of cuts, all coming from the Southeast Division. Unfortunately, Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap was among the trio that was included.

After all of the hoopla over Paul Millsap not getting an invitation to camp, his stint only lasted about two weeks, and his departure, as noted above, Washington’s John Wall and Bradley Beal. Millsap was rumored to not be on the team long, and a lackluster performance of 14 minutes on the floor in finishing Friday’s scrimmage with five points on 2-for-5 shooting likely didn’t help his cause. Millsap came to the roster after NBA stars Kevin Love and Blake Griffin withdrew before camp officially started.

The move leaves just one Hawk, Kyle Korver, on the U.S. roster, and the squad is now at 16 men. The Coach K-led men’s national team will play an exhibition game in Brazil on the 16th before the roster has to be cut down to 12.

Stay tuned for the latest as Kyle Korver continues to compete for a final roster spot.
