Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers preview: Ervin Santana vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu
Another day, another disappointing loss for the Atlanta Braves as they dropped a second straight game against the Los Angeles Dodgers last night. With that loss and a Washington Nationals win, the Bravs are now five games back in the race for the NL East lead.
The Pitching Match-up:
Ervin Santana is going to be on the mound for the Braves in this one, bringing in his 3.69 ERA, 3.21 FIP and 3.37 xFIP. He’s striking out exactly eight batters per nine innings and walking just 2.69 while allowing a .250 opposing average. His last start was a six-inning effort against the Nationals where he allowed four runs, walked two and struck out four.
Hyun-Jin Ryu is the man on the hill for the Dodgers and has been extremely effective this season with a 13-5 win-loss record to back it up. He’s striking out 7.86 batters per nine, walking 1.71 per nine and has a 3.21 ERA, 2.79 FIP and 3.19 xFIP. In his last start against the Angels, Ryu tossed seven innings and allowed just two hits.

The Predictions:
Before we offer our predictions for today, here’s a look at our records:
- Carlos: 6-4
- Brad: 5-5
Brad’s been battling that .500 mark the entire contest, and today he’s siding with the Dodgers and Ryu “reverse-jinx style” and I’m going to go with Santana because the Braves are completely unpredictable and it really doesn’t even matter who’s pitching half the time with them.
