Georgia Bulldogs FB Merritt Hall medically disqualified

Though the Georgia Bulldogs are surrounded by a great deal of optimism as the college football season approaches, the program was reportedly hit with some sobering news this week. Multiple reports indicate that starting fullback Merritt Hall has received word that he has been medically disqualified as a result of concussions, and because of that ruling, he will no longer to be able to continue playing football at the university.

Hall, a junior who played high school ball at Wesleyan, has appeared in 25 games while making 7 starts while in Athens, and he was pegged as the starter at the fullback spot for the 2014 season. Reports indicate that Hall has suffered at least three concussions throughout his career, and with recent advances in how they are evaluated in the football community, it is generally better to be safe rather than sorry.

In his stead, Mark Richt and Mike Bobo could turn to senior Taylor Maxey or a younger, more athletic option at the position, but in the meantime, our support would certainly be lended to Merritt Hall. Stay tuned for confirmation from Richt and the program.
