Todd Gurley listed among Heisman favorites by oddsmakers
By Brad Rowland
Todd Gurley is pretty good at football.
At this point, the above fact is not in dispute by anyone, and as a result, the Georgia Bulldogs running back continues to be in the mix during any discussion surrounding the 2014 Heisman Trophy. In their latest odds release, online bookmaker Bovada has listed Gurley as the second-leading candidate for the Heisman, offering a 7-to-2 return should he come away with the honor.
Only Oregon QB Marcus Mariota stands as more of a “favorite” than Gurley at this stage, and after the 6-foot-1, 230-pound running back exploded against Tennessee a week ago, it is easy to see why. Gurley gained 208 yards on 28 carries (7.4 yards per carry) with two touchdowns against the Vols, and with that performance, he now has amassed 610 yards on 8.8 yards per carry this season.
Workload concerns appear to be the only worry with regard to Todd Gurley’s chances to bring a Heisman to Athens, but with the recent loss of Sony Michel for an undetermined period of time, Gurley should have no trouble garnering enough touches to generate numbers. Is Gurley the best player in America? That statement is up for debate, but he certainly is near the top of the list, and as a result, he is firmly in the Hawks discussion.
