Todd Gurley claims top spot in Heisman odds

Say it with me. Todd Gurley is the Heisman favorite.

Yes, the favorite.

The great folks of Bovada have released their updated odds for the 2014 Heisman Trophy, and Gurley has overtaken Oregon QB Marcus Mariota for the top spot on the heels of last Thursday’s loss for the Ducks. Gurley was his normal, dominant self during Georgia’s blowout win over Vanderbilt, rushing for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns on 25 carries while adding 24 yards in the passing game. As a result, this is anything but a surprise, but at the same time, it is incredibly noteworthy.

Still, it has felt as if Gurley is filling the role as the “forgotten man” among the nation’s elite players, but with a network TV game against Missouri on Saturday, it would be quite easy for the junior running back to put his stamp on the race in an attempt to “run away” from the competition. For now, Todd Gurley will have to settle for emerging as the odds-on favorite, while fans of the Georgia Bulldogs simply thank their lucky stars for his presence in Athens.

Stay tuned for the latest on UGA sports across the board, including in-depth coverage of Saturday’s football match-up between the Dawgs and the Missouri Tigers.
