UPDATE: The Hawks have announced that Horford will return on Tuesday against Miami.

It has been more than ten months since the Atlanta Hawks have had the luxury of deploying their best player, Al Horford, in a competitive NBA game, but if everything goes according to plan this week, that should be changing in short order. Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Horford is likely to make his 2014-2015 debut sometime this week, and he brings this quote from head coach and interim general manager Mike Budenholzer.

"“I think we are hopeful that at some point during the week he’ll get a chance to play,” coach Mike Budenholzer said following Monday’s practice."

The Hawks have road games against the Miami Heat on Tuesday and the Chicago Bulls on Thursday before returning home for a contest against the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, and it is difficult to pinpoint when Horford will take the floor. Still, the 28-year-old center will be a sight for eyes whenever he takes the court, especially when remembering that he averaged 18.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in limited action before suffering a torn pectoral muscle on December 26th in Cleveland.

Al Horford continues to be one of the best players in the NBA, and if he is healthy for the majority of the season, the Atlanta Hawks appear to be poised for a positive surge.
