Georgia Bulldogs rank fifth in preseason SEC basketball poll
By Brad Rowland
College basketball season is just around the corner, and the Georgia Bulldogs are participating in SEC Media Day on Wednesday. With that in mind, the preseason media poll has been released in advance of the season, and Mark Fox’s club received some favorable marks as the fifth-ranked team in the conference.
UGA returns four of their top five scorer’s from the 2013-2014 team that finished 20-14, and while there is still a lack of true star power in Athens, this could be a quality group in the SEC. In fairness, the conference is wide open after the top two of Kentucky and Florida, but at the same time, the Dawgs do have quality veterans in the backcourt in Kenny Gaines (13.0 points per game in 2013-2014) and Charles Mann (13.9 points, 4.2 rebounds in 2013-2014), to go along with seniors up front with Marcus Thornton and Nemanja Djurisic.
It will be interesting to see if Mark Fox and his staff can get anything out of their young talent this season, but even if that does not go according to plan, the Georgia Bulldogs could be a fringe NCAA Tournament team if all goes according to plan.
Stay tuned to ATL All Day for the latest on the UGA basketball program, and the season is rapidly approaching.
