Georgia Bulldogs to apply for Todd Gurley’s reinstatement Wednesday

The Todd Gurley saga has been a long and winding road, but there is a bit of hope and optimism on the campus of the University of Georgia on Wednesday. In a release issued by the athletic department, it was announced that the program would formally seek reinstatement for Gurley by filing the necessary documentation on Wednesday, and with that, we could potentially see the return of Gurley in the near future.

Here is a statement from Gurley himself:

"“I want to thank the University, coaches, teammates, and the Bulldog Nation for their patience and support,” Gurley said.  “I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I can’t thank the University, my coaches, and teammates enough for supporting me throughout this process.  I’m looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates.”"

To be honest, there is not a lot of clarity as far as an expected timeline here, but the release did include this snippet about a “prompt ruling”.

"The University hopes for and expects a prompt ruling by the NCAA so that Todd, his coaches, and teammates can adequately prepare for our next game."

Nick Chubb has done incredible work in place of Todd Gurley during his two-game absence, but at the same time, this is simply a different team with Gurley in the lineup. The Georgia Bulldogs are a legitimate contender for both the SEC and National Championships, and it would, quite obviously, be a huge boost to both hopes if Todd Gurley was reinstated quickly, perhaps in time for the annual rivalry game against the Florida Gators next Saturday.

Stay tuned.
