The Team

While the Hawks entered the offseason with a significant amount of cap room to work with, the biggest “addition” to the team this season comes from a player who’s been on the roster: Al Horford.

After missing almost the entire season last year thanks to a torn pectoral injury, Horford is back and ready to assume his role as best player on the team. Before the 2013-14 season began, many around the league were excited to see what a front-court duo of Horford and Paul Millsap could accomplish. We never got to really see what that would look like over the course of the season, but this year we should be able to.

Aside from Horford, the starting five for the Hawks should sound extremely similar to last year’s ensemble. Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, DeMarre Carroll and the aforementioned Millsap should round out the starters to provide an extremely capable team on paper.

Last year, the team was obviously hammered with injuries, but added depth this season could go a long way in preventing more injuries this season.

The notable additions are in the form of Thabo Sefolosha and Kent Bazemore.

Heading into the offseason, the Hawks wanted to get better defensively on the wing and with these two added to the team, that’s a long step in the right direction. Bazemore has had to deal with a minor foot injury throughout preseason, but seemed to be getting back to 100 percent as the games wore on. That added depth on the wing should allow Budenholzer to stick with more tradition lineups in the rotation if he wants.

Another big addition to the team comes from the draft in rookie forward Adreian Payne. Payne was a bit inconsistent in the preseason, but brings a ton of athleticism to the table, and has many around the league extremely excited.
