Saturday night in Athens should be an explosive atmosphere, as the Georgia Bulldogs host the Auburn Tigers in a “loser leaves town” match with regard to both the SEC and National Championship pictures. In our full preview from earlier in the week, we took a deeper look at this match-up, but aside from the obvious implications from a win-loss standpoint, the biggest story line is the triumphant return of UGA All-American running back Todd Gurley, who will be on the field for the first time following a controversial four-game suspension for accepting impermissible benefits.
At this point, the majority of odds-makers (both in Las Vegas and off-shore) have anointed Mark Richt and the Bulldogs as a 2.5-point favorite, although there is plenty of time for that line to shift before kick-off in Athens. It may be surprising to some to see Georgia favored against the higher-ranked Tigers (Auburn is number 9 in the latest CFB Playoff Poll while Georgia is number 15), but home field matters a great deal in college football, and there is not a visible talent disadvantage for the Dawgs despite the difference in national perception and ranking.
Stay tuned for post-game analysis, including a full recap shortly after the game. Here are the particulars for Saturday’s match-up, including how and when to keep an eye on the broadcast via multiple outlets:
