Georgia Bulldogs open as 14.5-point favorite over Georgia Tech

It is officially rivalry week, and with that, the annual battle between the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is upon us. “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” is an appropriate moniker for the yearly contest between the two teams, but if our pals in Las Vegas have anything to say about this game, the result could be slightly more lopsided than you might think.
Vegas Insider has released its opening number for the game on Saturday, and the Bulldogs (playing at home) are currently giving a robust 14.5 points to the Yellow Jackets. What does this mean in the grand scheme? Basically, nothing. However, it is somewhat surprising to see Georgia as a lopsided favorite, especially given the way that Georgia Tech has played while compiling a top-16 ranking in both major polls.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the line without the week, but for both the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, nothing short of a victory will do. This doesn’t appear to be a match-up in which one team will simply be looking to “compete” for four quarters, and that lends a great deal of intrigue toward the festivities at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. Stay tuned.
