The season did not end in the way that any fan of the Georgia Bulldogs would have preferred, but the 2014 campaign is still alive and well with a bowl game on the horizon. On Sunday, it was announced that the Dawgs will be traveling to Charlotte for an end-of-the-year battle against the Louisville Cardinals in the Belk Bowl.
The Georgia Bulldogs enter their bowl game with a 9-3 record, and with that mark, the Bulldogs were ranked 13th in the final installment of the College Football Playoff committee’s rankings. Their opponents, led by Bobby Petrino and Todd Grantham, fell in the 21st spot in the final rankings, but that does not mean that UGA will be in for a cakewalk victory, as Louisville is a legitimate opponent who will be motivated to end their 2014 season on a high note.
The Belk Bowl will be televised nationally on ESPN, and it will be a 6:30 pm kick-off time on December 30. It will be interesting to see what kind of “favorite” that Georgia becomes in this spot, but with the final collegiate game for Hutson Mason and many seniors as the backdrop, this should be a nice window into the immediate future of the program. In addition, there are numerous storylines surrounding Grantham (the former UGA defensive coordinator), with former players and crossovers everywhere.
Stay tuned for all the latest as the Georgia Bulldogs travel to central Florida for the New Year’s holiday, and we will be here for blow-by-blow coverage of the festivities.
