Baseball America releases Atlanta Braves top 10 prospects

The Baseball America crew released their Atlanta Braves top 10 prospects today, as they make their way through every team in Major League Baseball. In addition, BA contributor Bill Ballew will be hosting a chat about the top 10 list for subscribers, so if you are one make sure to stop in for that.

If not, as someone who was fortunate enough to work with the BA guys, I would highly recommend it. You’ll also get a much more detailed breakdown of the players.

But on to the list:

  1. Jose Peraza
  2. Lucas Sims
  3. Christian Bethancourt
  4. Jason Hursh
  5. Ozhaino Albies
  6. Braxton Davidson
  7. Tyrell Jenkins
  8. Johan Camargo
  9. Garrett Fulencheck
  10. Kyle Kubitza

There are no huge surprises here for me, and pegging Peraza at No. 1 seems like the obvious move.

My biggest takeaway from this list is Jenkins at No. 7. When Jason Heyward was traded to the Cardinals with Jordan Walden for Shelby Miller and Jenkins, Keith Law said that Jenkins would immediately become the team’s top pitching prospect. While it doesn’t seem like that is the case, adding Jenkins certainly improves the team’s pitching depth and comes with some upside if he can figure out his secondary offerings and stay healthy.

2014 first and second round draft selections Davidson and Fulencheck make the list as well. Davidson will be a player to watch out for, because at the moment he’s the team’s best hitting prospect–one of the few actual offensive guys the team has in the system.
