Georgia Tech hangs on to beat Vanderbilt 65-60

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets got a quality win today by defeating the Commodores of Vanderbilt 65-60 at McCamish Pavilion. The Jackets improve to 5-1 at home this season and 8-2 overall.
Georgia Tech started the game off quick with an 8-2 lead to open up the game. The rest of the first half was controlled by Vanderbilt. They shot the ball very well in the opening half, hitting 52 percent of their attempts from the field and taking a 33-25 advantage into the intermission.
The Yellow Jackets were able to chip away at Vanderbilt’s lead through the second half and took 45-43 advantage at the 10:16 mark after halftime. They continued to stay ahead of the Commodores for the rest of the game. The Jackets continued their dominance on the boards this season with a 39-30 rebounding advantage today over their SEC opponent.
The Jackets got strong performance from forward Charles Mitchell with 19 points and eight rebounds. The home team also got 14 points from guard Marcus Georges-Hunt, who hit two key free throws in the closing seconds to help secure the win.
The Commodores had three players in double figures with centers Damian Jones and Josh Henderson each scoring 12 points to lead the way.
Next up for Georgia Tech will be a road game against the Dayton Flyers on December 23.
