Georgia Bulldogs take down Seton Hall, 65-47
By Keith Holt
The Pirates of Seton Hall did not look much like their 9-1 record today in Athens, as the Georgia Bulldogs defeated them by the score of 65-47. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-0 at Stegeman Coliseum and 6-3 overall for the season.
Mark Fox’s team showed no signs of a long layoff, getting out to a 14-4 start to kick off the game, and the Bulldogs were paced by returning guard Kenny Gaines with 6 points in the first 5 minutes of the game. Seton Hall couldn’t overcome Georgia’s defense and big rebounding advantage, as the Dogs went on to lead at halftime, 41-22.
The Pirates never seemed to match Georgia’s intensity even after the intermission. Georgia dominated almost every phase of the game. Kenny Gaines led the team in scoring with 15 points followed by forward Marcus Thornton’s 13 points. Guard JJ Frazier came off the bench to have the most well rounded line of the game as he had 6 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and 7 assists for Mark Fox’s ball club.
Seton Hall had no player to reach double figures in scoring. Georgia held highly touted freshman guard Isiah Whitehead to only 5 points and 2 of 6 shooting. The team only shot 29% and very poor 3 for 20 from 3 point range.
Next up for the Georgia Bulldogs is a home game against in state rival Mercer on December 27. Stay tuned to ATL All Day for the latest on UGA hoops as the season progresses.
