Brian Schottenheimer hired as Offensive Coordinator for Georgia Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs have been in search of a new offensive coordinator since the sudden departure of Mike Bobo prior to the Belk Bowl win in December, and that new voice has come from an unlikely source. UGA announced on Wednesday afternoon that current St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator and longtime NFL assistant coach Brian Schottenheimer will be taking over the offensive duties in Athens.

This move came out of left field for a variety of reasons. First, Schottenheimer was technically under contract with the Rams, and while he was certainly under fire for his performance in St. Louis, a move to “downgrade” from the NFL to college in the same position is slightly jarring. In addition, Mark Richt has been famously unsuccessful in securing big dollars for Bobo in the past, but with the recent contract extension handed down to defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, perhaps there has been a shift in policy within the athletic department.

Brian Schottenheimer was a name that no one could have seen coming for this position. What do you think about this hire, Georgia fans? Are in you in favor of an NFL head coach with a spotty track record over attempting to swipe a proven collegiate mind or promote from within? Leave us feedback in the comments, but the Georgia Bulldogs have a new face to their offense and it comes as a minor shock.
