Report: Kyle Shanahan to be named Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator

The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly settled on a new voice for the offensive side of the ball, and his name is Kyle Shanahan.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Arthur Blank and company will tab Shanahan as the team’s offensive coordinator, and in addition, he confirms the previous thought that Atlanta is simply waiting until after the Super Bowl to hire Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as head coach.

Kyle Shanahan served as the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns in 2014 after coaching under his father as the OC of the Washington Redskins from 2010 to 2013. He has had checkered success with quarterbacks during his time in the league, but 2014 was not an example of that, as Cleveland struggled mightily with the duo of Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel.

It should not come as a surprise to see Kyle Shanahan hired, but frankly, this is not the ideal choice. His offenses have never been seen as terribly innovative, and with Quinn on the way to coach up the defense, the offense could use a more dynamic voice. Still, this is the pairing that we should expect, and that should be finalized with the hiring of Quinn in a couple of weeks.
