The Georgia Bulldogs got a big conference win to add to their resume after knocking off Ole Miss  69-64 tonight. The Bulldogs have now won three straight SEC games and are 12-5 on the season.

The game went back and forth for the earlier part of the first half. Neither Georgia nor Mississippi shot the ball particularly well in the opening period; they shot 33 and 37 percent respectively from the field. The Rebels were able to create some distance before half time and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 22-16 in the first half including a 7-4 advantage on the offensive glass to take 31-25 lead into intermission. Forward Marcus Thornton was the lone bright spot for Georgia with 11 points and four rebounds at the end of the period.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half and was able to take the lead with a 9-2 run early in the period. Mississippi battled Georgia most of the second half, but the Bulldogs were able to keep the lead for most of the half and hold off the Rebels with some timely shots from guard J.J. Frazier. They also forced Ole Miss to 14 turnovers for the game. The game was tight all the way to the end but Georgia managed to ice the game by hitting seven free throws down the stretch.

Georgia had four players to score in double figures and was led by Marcus Thornton’s 16 points. The Dawgs were able to take advantage of 31 trips to the free throw line, which doubled their opponent’s 14 trips to the charity stripe.

Ole Miss got a huge game from Stefan Moody who had 26 points to carry the Rebels. Unfortunately for them, no one else was able to step up and match his effort.

Next up for Georgia is a road game against Mississippi State on January 24.
