Georgia Bulldogs vs. South Carolina Gamecocks preview: Keeping things rolling
By Brad Rowland
Aside from the gauntlet that is the Kentucky Wildcats (who operate in their own sphere), the Georgia Bulldogs are the hottest team in the SEC right now. The Dawgs have won five straight games after starting conference play with back-to-back losses, and with another winnable game on the schedule for Saturday afternoon, things could realistically keep rolling for Mark Fox and his group.
Georgia takes on South Carolina in a true road game, however, and those are never fun in the SEC. The great Ken Pomeroy lists the Gamecocks as a 1-point favorite at home here, and with news breaking that UGA forward Marcus Thornton will miss the game with a concussion issue, the pendulum could swing toward the home team in what should be an active environment.

Still, this particular edition of the Bulldogs has outperformed expectations based on their balanced attack, and that provides optimism to navigate this game without Thornton. The backcourt usually paces things for UGA, led by the trio of Kenny Gaines, Charles Mann and J.J. Frazier, but there will be special emphasis on a player like Nemanja Djurisic here to pick up the slack in Thornton’s absence.
The Georgia Bulldogs are beginning to generate real anticipation as a potential NCAA Tournament team, and this victory would go a long way toward furthering that movement. Still, a trip to face a rival in their own building is always an adventure and Frank Martin’s team should be considered a real threat to snap UGA’s winning streak.
