Georgia Tech projected to reach ‘New Year’s Six’ bowl
By Brad Rowland
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have considerable momentum on the gridiron after a strong 2014 season that ended with a triumphant win over Mississippi State in the Capital One Orange Bowl. That victory, in conjunction with a win over Georgia and a highly competitive loss against Florida State, vaulted the Ramblin’ Wreck into the national consciousness for the 2015 season, and Brad Edwards of ESPN ($) has jumped on the bandwagon in predicting a return visit to a “New Year’s Six” bowl game for the Jackets.
Edwards projects the Jackets to face off with the Boise State Broncos in the Peach Bowl, played in Tech’s backyard, and here is a snippet of what he had to share about Georgia Tech:
"Yes, I have only one ACC representative, and it’s not Florida State or Clemson. Those teams both lost half of their starters from last season, and both are inexperienced on the offensive line. They’ve recruited well enough to prove me wrong, but I’m going with Georgia Tech to win the league. I like the experience on defense, and the returning talent on offense is where it needs to be for a team like this — at QB and on the O-line."
It should be noted that Edwards does not pick the Jackets to make the College Football Playoff this season, but it is undoubtedly high praise to effectively predict Georgia Tech as the ACC Champion. Paul Johnson’s club returns arguably the best quarterback in the conference in Justin Thomas, and with an improving defense and strong play at the skill positions, it isn’t exactly a crazy thought to picture another season with double-digit wins.
