Atlanta Hawks All-Star Weekend preview

The NBA’s All-Star Weekend starts tonight, and with it, various members of the Atlanta Hawks will be competing on each day of the event. To make sure you don’t miss any Atlanta Hawk this weekend, we’re highlighting each of the events that a player will participate in.

Friday

BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge:

In his second breakout year, Hawks guard Dennis Schroder will be competing as a part of the World Team against the rising stars of the United States. Schroder will be teamed up with Andrew Wiggins, Dante Exum, Gorgui Dieng and others to take on a roster that includes Trey Burke, Nerlens Noel and Victor Oladipo.

Atlanta Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson will be coaching the World Team.

Saturday

Degree Shooting Stars:

Paul Millsap will team up with NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen and the WNBA’s Elena Delle to try and knock down the trio of Chris Bosh, Dominique Wilkins and Swin Cash–who have won the event the past two times.

Taco Bell Skills Challenge:

Jeff Teague makes an appearance in the skills competition for the second time in two years and will match up against Elfrid Payton in the first round of an 8-man bracket. Schroder is in the event as well and gets a tough first round draw with Kyle Lowry.

Foot Locker Three-Point Contest:

Of course Kyle Korver is going to compete in the 3-point contest, and this will be one of the most exciting events of the weekend—at least in my opinion. Korver is going into an extremely challenging field that includes Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, J.J. Reddick, Wesley Matthews and James Harden.

Sunday

The main event comes on Sunday, where Coach Mike Budenholer will lead the Eastern Conference team against the West, with four of his own players on the roster: Millsap, Teague, Korver and Al Horford.

The Eastern Conference will look to win twice in a row for the first time since the 2005 and 2006 All-Star Games.
