Cameron Forte keys Georgia Bulldogs to significant road win

The bleeding has stopped.

Cameron Forte connected on a jump shot with 10 seconds remaining in overtime, and that particular conversion was enough to propel the Georgia Bulldogs to a much-needed 65-64 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Forte, a 6-foot-7 forward, was actually UGA’s leading rebounder in the contest with 10, but one of his three field goals proved to be his single biggest contribution to the effort.

The Dawgs entered the game on the heels of back-to-back home losses, and those defeats severely wounded the team’s candidacy for an at-large bid. That placed additional emphasis on Forte’s shot and the overall performance, and even on a night when Georgia shot just 38% from the floor and 20% from 3-point range, they were able to prevail with a road victory over a solid opponent.

Nemanja Djurisic led the Georgia Bulldogs with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Charles Mann (13 points, 4 rebounds) and Marcus Thornton (10 points, 6 rebounds) joined him in double figures. It was certainly a team-wide effort on this night, but Forte’s near double-double was hugely needed off the bench, and on the defensive end, the Bulldogs held Alabama to just 37.5% shooting as a team.

Mark Fox and the Bulldogs will be in action again on Wednesday as they look to improve on what is now an 8-6 mark in SEC play in match-up against Ole Miss. Stay tuned.
