Georgia Bulldogs: Sitting Pretty For SEC Tournament

The Georgia Bulldogs are sitting pretty for this week’s SEC Tourney! Against some tough odds, things fell into place for the Dawgs this weekend, and they took care of their own business!

In my Georgia vs. Auburn preview recently (Georgia vs Auburn: Valentin’s Day Memories), I shared some the mind-boggling scenarios that needed to happen this past weekend for the Georgia Bulldogs to get at least that coveted 4th seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament, and the double bye.

I won’t rehash all that now, but feel free to look back and see what had to happen.

What’s important now is that things fell into place nicely, and the Georgia Bulldogs are now sitting pretty as the 3rd Seed in the bracket for the SEC Tournament, and have those coveted 1st and 2nd round byes!

It’s no mystery at this point, unless you live under a rock, who the #1 seed in the SEC Tournament is.

Kentucky had an unbelievable season, going 30-0, and they are clearly the team to beat this year, not only in the SEC, but for the whole kit and caboodle.

The #2 seed is the Arkansas Razorbacks, who put together a solid season as well at 24-7 overall, 13-5 SEC.  Arkansas however, struggled this weekend against LSU and lost a close one 81-78.

Speaking of struggling, Georgia fans don’t need to be reminded that back on Tuesday, March 3rd in Athens, GA, our Dawgs lost to Kentucky 72-64, but gave the Wildcats all they could handle through the majority of that game.

More from Georgia Bulldogs

My point is that if you believe in destiny at all, you could be one of those that believe the Georgia Bulldogs are such a team this year, at least for the SEC Tournament.

Perhaps that’s a stretch, but I think it’s at least fair to say the Bulldogs have the chops to hang with every team they’ll face, including the powerful and unbeaten Wildcats!

The obvious benefit of being highly seeded in the SEC Tournament is that our Georgia Bulldogs will get to rest their weary bones until their first game (game 10) in the quarters on March 13. They have to face either Ole Miss, South Carolina, or Missouri.

While anything can happen in these tournaments, remember that the Georgia Bulldogs have beaten both Ole Miss (Feb. 25th, 76-72) and Missouri (Feb. 28th, 668-44), and while running the danger of being overly repetitive, the Dawgs didn’t make it easy on Kentucky.

  • South Carolina (#11 seed) did get the best of the Georgia Bulldogs on Feb. 17 (64-58), but I don’t expect that to be a problem in the SEC Tournament, as Mark Fox and crew will certainly make adjustments for the oddities they saw against the Gamecocks.

I’m feeling quite confident about the Bulldogs’ chances to face #1 seed Kentucky again in the SEC Tournament. Win or lose, that would be a thrill for the fans.
