The Atlanta Braves hot start is fading fast as the Marlins took the series on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2 win. That makes three of four games Atlanta has lost, and drops their record to 6-3 on the young season. Nevertheless, the Braves will still at the very least be tied for 1st place in the NL East with the Mets by the end of baseball today (not that standings matter at this point, but it’s nice to say we’re in 1st place while it lasts).

The downfall of this series was the Braves four and five starters: Trevor Cahill and Eric Stults. Cahill gave up four runs in just 2.1 innings on Tuesday night, while Stults four runs in five innings on Wednesday. Neither pitcher has looked very good so far this year, although Cahill has had just this one start.
In each of the two losses the offense reverted back to 2014. Instead of producing runs like they are built to do, all they could muster were four solo home runs in both games combined. One each from Freeman, Pierzynski, K. Johnson and Maybin.
Cameron Maybin now has two home runs this year. That equals his long ball output for each of the past two years combined with the San Diego Padres.
The Braves will take Thursday off to re-group and travel to Toronto, Canada. The Blue Jays are 4-4 on the young season. First pitch of the three-game set will be 7:07 on Friday night. Game 2 is at 1:07 on Saturday and same time on Sunday for Game 3.
