One of the cool things about the NBA playoffs is they allow the team’s local broadcast crew to cover the first round. That is, if you like the local broadcast crew.
During the Braves long playoff run I spent my summers glued to the TV or radio listening to Skip, Pete, Don, and Joe. Then when the playoffs came I had to listen on the radio to hear their voices because the TV broadcast featured national announcers I didn’t know. I felt at home with the Braves crew, but not with this new voice. So often, like many others in Braves Country, I would turn down the volume on the TV and listen to the radio commentary during the playoffs (which was great except when there was a 5-10 second delay).
Bob Rathbun and Dominque Wilkins have been carrying us through the Hawks remarkable season this year on Fox Sports South. They’ll continue to do so during the first round, but there will be a national TV option as well. Here’s the schedule of games:
Game 1, Sunday, 5:30 TNT/Fox Sports South
Game 2, Wednesday, 7:00 NBA TV/Fox Sports South
Game 3, Saturday, 3:00 TNT/Fox Sports South
Game 4, Mon, April 27 TBD/Fox Sports South
Game 5, Wed, April 29, TBD/Fox Sports South
Game 6, Fri, May 1, TBD/Fox Sports South
Game 7, Sun May 3, TBD/Fox Sports South
After Round 1, it’s national TV announcers unless you did what I did in my youth and turn them down to listen to Steve Holman’s radio call.
I’m curious – how will Hawks fans watch the series vs. the Nets? National TV or stick with the local guys?
