2009 vs. Heat and Cavaliers

The Hawks took the momentum from the 2008 season and became a winning team again with a 45-37 regular season mark. That earned the the #4 seed in the East, set to play #5 seed Miami led by Dwayne Wade.

This wasn’t the Heat with Shaq or LeBron, just D-Wade. It was a series of alternating blowouts that went seven games, but with the home court advantage the Hawks were able to advance to the second round.

Once in the conference semi-finals the route was on. LeBron James and the Cavaliers blew past the Hawks with ease in four games. It was clear then that this nucleus of Bibby, Johnson, Williams, Smith and Horford has a long way to go.
