2011 vs. Magic and Bulls

Enter Larry Drew as head coach, and the changing of the guard at the point.

The Hawks took a step back with a 44-38 record, garnering the #5 seed, but they looked better in the playoffs. Marvin Williams took a step back in his role with the team, allowing Jason Collins to start and Jamal Crawford played significant minutes as a sixth man.

The first round was against the Magic. Mike Bibby was traded away so Kirk Hinrick was running the point. He was able to get the Hawks past the Magic in six games, but fell to injury in the final contest.

In Round 2, the Hawks headed to Chicago where Jeff Teague would take over the team. After being a little-used sub in his first two years in Atlanta, Teague proved he could play well in the NBA. He led the Hawks core of Johnson, Horford and Smith to push the Bulls to six games before losing.

Out of the three straight trips to the conference semi-finals, this was their best showing.
