2. Healthy Competition for Starting Center.

Part of Georgia’s success offensively under Head Coach Mark Richt has to do with the continuity and well thought out succession plan at center.  The Dawgs have only had two starting centers the last seven seasons: Ben Jones (2008-2011) and David Andrews (2012-2014).  Jones plays for the Houston Texans and Andrews enters this year’s NFL Draft.  Outside of UGA’s QB competition, the one being had at C will be something to follow throughout the summer.  Starting Guard Junior Brandon Kublanow, Senior Guard Hunter Long, and Sophomore Lineman Isaiah Wynn have been splitting snaps at center this spring.

  • Kublanow, who played center in high school at Walton, will either keep his starting guard job or assume the new role of anchoring the offensive line.  According to HC Mark Richt, Long is “probably the most able to handle all the calls…and snap the ball consistently right this second.” (0:41-0:54).  Wynn has cross-trained at both guard and center for the Dawgs.  Regardless of who wins the Starting Center job, UGA will return four starters to an impressive offensive line (T John Theus, T Kolton Houston, G Greg Pyke, and Kublanow).  A healthy competition at center will only improve Georgia’s o-line depth.
