The Atlanta Braves rebounded from the mid-week series loss at home to Miami by winning two of three against the Blue Jays north of the border. That put the Braves at 8-4 through two weeks of baseball….but they find themselves in second place.
The New York Mets have gone on some kinda hot streak since losing the series in Atlanta. At that time New York was just 3-3 and a full two games behind the Braves. Since, they are 7-0 and while the Braves were 3-3 during the same time frame (not horrible), we lost the East lead – now trailing by one half game.
Washington, who was the odds on favorite to win the division, is currently sitting in 3rd place with a 6-7 record; two games back of the Mets.
To win the series in Toronto, the Braves slugged it out scoring eight runs on Friday, and five on Sunday for the wins. Saturday’s loss was a 6-5 affair that featured a walk-off home run in the 10th inning. The Braves had a four-run lead in the game but blew it.
Shelby Miller looks like the Braves best pitcher through just three starts. He is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA, and the team has won all three of his starts. He, of course, was acquired from the Cardinals for Jason Heyward in the offseason.
Next up for Atlanta are those hot Mets with a trip to Queen, NY. The series will start on Tuesday after the Braves take yet another early season off day on Monday.
