 5. Vanderbilt Commodores (54-19-2)

Georgia has always had the upper hand in its annual meeting the with the Vanderbilt Commodores.  As the lone private school in the SEC, Vandy often lacks the resources to compete with football behemoths like Georgia.  That’s not to say that the ‘Dores can’t defeat the Dawgs occasionally.  Under former HC James Franklin, Vandy upset UGA in the infamous Ramik Wilson Targeting Game in 2013.  Vanderbilt finished the 2013 season ranked twenty-fourth in the country.

New Vandy HC Derek Mason couldn’t figure out his QB situation in 2014 and missed a bowl game for the first time in four seasons.  The Georgia Bulldogs look to build a winning streak when the head to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on September 12th.

6. Kentucky Wildcats (54-12-2)

Georgia is a football school.  Kentucky is a basketball school.  These Eastern opponents expect to win in their school’s specialty sport.  But the chance for upsetting a national powerhouse is always in the back of each university’s minds.  Kentucky last beat Georgia in 2009 during the painful Joe Cox Game at Sanford Stadium.

Kentucky HC Mark Stoops has the Wildcats trending in the right direction, narrowly missing out on a bowl appearance with last year’s 5-7 campaign.  When Kentucky fields a competent quarterback (Tim Couch, Jared Lorenzen, André Woodson), they usually have a bowl-caliber season.  Returning starter Patrick Towles fits that mold and looks to get UK back into the bowl season in 2015.

7. Missouri Tigers (3-1)

In three seasons in the SEC, the Missouri Tigers have won the East twice.  Playing the role of heartbreaker seems like the right fit for the newcomers from the Show Me State.  The road team has won all three contests in this budding rivalry.

Mizzou looks to three-peat in the division under defensive wizard HC Gary Pinkel and junior QB Maty Mauk’s leadership in 2015.  The Tigers are a welcomed addition to SEC play but that doesn’t mean I like them.  Play somebody of merit in non-conference.  BYU isn’t good enough!

8. Alabama Crimson Tide (25-37-4)

When Georgia does play Alabama, stakes are always high.  Neither team plays often and have only met three times in the last eight seasons.  Georgia hasn’t been to Tuscaloosa since 2007 and the Tide will come to the Classic City to take on the Dawgs in a must-see television event on October 3rd.

The last two games for the Georgia Bulldogs against the Alabama Crimson Tide have left Georgia in tears.  Blacking Out Bama in 2008 for College Game Day was disastrous.  The 2012 SEC Championship Game was absolutely soul crushing.  Five yards away from getting to clobber Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship! Five yards!  While I hope Mark Richt doesn’t have to get his boys fired up to play Bama, the Dawgs are going to need to play with fiery passion to beat the Tide at home this fall.

Here’s a great link to see how Georgia has faired against any opponent.
