Todd Gurley Goes #10 to the Rams
By Keith Holt
We now know the new home of UGA’s Todd Gurley as he was the number 10 pick in the NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. There had not been a running back taken in round one since 2012. Gurley is the first running back selected by St Louis in the 1st round since 2004 when they picked Steven Jackson. He is the first Georgia back to go in the opening round since Knowshon Moreno in 2009.

There had been a lot of speculation of Todd’s draft status because of a season ending knee injury. Despite his injury, most mock drafts still had him listed as a 1st round pick. As we got closer to the draft it seemed that his stock rose as word got around that he may be ready for the start of the season. Apparently the Rams believed in his ability as Gurley was easily the most dynamic player in the nation last year before his suspension.
Gurley will look to add some punch to an offense that acquired new quarterback Nick Foles in the offseason. He also could possibly be used on special teams. As we have seen at Georgia, we know he can be lightening on the kickoff return.
Todd will have to compete with SEC alum Tre Mason for carries in the St. Louis backfield. Playing for Jeff Fisher who has shown that he likes to run the ball there should be plenty of opportunities for Gurley to prove himself on a team that will be looking to improve the 20th rushing attack in the league last season.
Todd will get to add his name to the long list of UGA running backs that have made NFL impacts like Herschel Walker, Garrison Hearst, Terrell Davis and Moreno. Stay tuned to ATL All Day for more draft coverage of players from our home state.
